Embroidery and block printing

What a lovely combination of block printing and embroidery. The image and the stitching work really well together in this 'folklore' piece. Simple and beautiful and the limited use of colours underlines the simplicity.

Because sometimes, we like it variegated. And all nice and neat, on little cards.

Stitching in Arabic

I love Arabic script and to see it in stitched form is absolutely lovely. Despite the fact that I can't read it and only just make out a few of the letters..

After finding this I searched Flickr to see if there was more embroidery in Arabic. Not a lot, sadly. But let this be an open invite to anyone who does embroidery in Arabic or any other non-Latin alphabet to get in touch. I'd love to showcase it.

Abe Vigoda is alive

abe vigoda embroidery
Stitched by tinyairplanes

Oh my goodness. First William Shatner, and now this? Abe Vigoda was SO my favorite curmudgeon on Barney Miller. I just wanted to hug him. Awesome work, Ms. Virbitsky!

And of course, these embroidered portraits bring to mind the amazingly talented Ms. Hart. I finally saw a few of Jenny's portraits in person last week and I almost passed out from their sheer amazingness. Keep the portrait spirit alive, peeps!

But will they wipe their hands on her?

YIP.180 but will they wipe their hands on her?
Stitched by JulieFrick

When your stitching is as amazing as JulieFrick's, it creates a certain conundrum. It's so beautiful, will people actually use it? :) As for myself I might dab my hands around the image, but I would never want to yuck up her embroidery.

How about you? For your embroidered projects - to use, or not to use? :)

P.s. That's a Sublime Stitching design, by the way!

Georgette the mouse

tea towel - georgette the mouse
Stitched by bookwormbethie

I have long been in awe of the wonderful stitching prowess of bookwormbethie. But Georgette the mouse really seals the deal for me - isn't this cuteness incarnate? Ok, maybe not incarnate, because it's on a tea towel. But, you get what I mean, right? Wonderful! Visit her blog for more on this mouse.

Worst songs

July 5, 2009, originally uploaded by thirdpersonpossessive.

But not worst embroidery!

Maybe bad songs could be made better if the lyrics were embroidered... Maybe getting them onto fabric we could get them out of our heads...

See more on the Embloggery blog. :-)

You're probably used to our daily awesome Flickr finds. What you might not know, however, is that I'm constantly freaking out over all the amazing stuff I find in the Embroidery pool. I couldn't possibly blog every single awesome thing I find, because then there'd be, like, 3,000 posts per day. (OK, I exaggerate - but only a tiny bit!)

Enter, Twitter! Carina and I will be using Twitter to point out even more cool stuff as we find it, on Flickr, and elsewhere on the web. So subscribe to us and get ready for more awesome!

Taco Tuesday

This work belongs to mimilove forever from the Flickr group. It just cracked me up this morning when I was surfing and having my coffee. *added* Be sure to check out her blog and explaination.

I almost spit it out.........so.....you are wondering, what does that have to do with Taco Tuesday? *shrug* It's Tuesday, and when the kids were growing up, we had a taco tuesday and they were always looking forward to it....so naturally, it stuck in this mind........carry on.........

Poetic shrub

sleepy shrub, originally uploaded by whimsiology.

Oh my goodness! I just stumbled upon this on Flickr and don't you agree that I just HAD TO post this?

This is one of the things I love about embroidery. All the different forms it takes, sometimes completely unexpected. The imagery here is whimsical and poetic; and the use of stitching is just beautiful I love the little flowers and the colours.

Do yourself a favour and go check out the rest of whimsiology's photostream!

Fab ferret!

In the title of this photo it says it is a ferret, but it reminds me of a panther - like an Inca type panther. Thpse spots and tail led me in that direction. Anyway, ferret or panther, it doesn't take away the fact that this is pretty cute and the stitching is fab!
