Stumpwork?

Ready & waiting

Do you use Flickr to its full potential?

I don't - I'm shocking with tags. I rarely (if ever) use them at all. Am I short changing fellow stitchers?

My search for stumpwork examples this week left me wondering if other people are as slack as me.

Has stumpwork flown under the modern embroiderer's radar?

Maybe...maybe not. Alien Ted didn't let me down. Very cool stumpwork.

  2. I agree, not too much stumpwork out there, I have to admit I don't do it either though.

My favourite piece of stumpwork I've seen recently (admittedly only piece I've seen, but it's brilliant)is this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/14903992@N08/4606166072/
Very modern and up to date.

  5. The more I read about stumpwork the more I want to try it. It has come and gone in fashion - even the Victorians thought it too fancy. There are some amazing stitchers out there doing it and keeping the art alive - just do a quick search on Amazon and you'll be surprised at the number of beautiful books available.

  7. Whoah, I had never heard of it either - thanks for bringing it to my attention! What a wonderful word 'stumpwork' is too - it sounds like the sort of stitching woodland fairies might undertake!

  8. I've not done Stumpwork properly since I graduated from the Royal School of Needlework. It's a fascinating technique, and one I'll get back to at some stage.
