Pattern (inspiration): It's like yoga

it's like yoga by cauchy09

Today, instead of the usual free or commercial pattern, I thought I'd show you guys an excellent example of how you can use things you love, such as a favourite quote from a TV show, as inspiration for your own patterns.

The above quote is from a character called Ron Swanson in a show called Parks and Recreation (we don't get it here in the UK, it sounds funny though, if that quote is anything to go by!) and cauchy has blogged here about how watching the show inspired her to make this piece and how she went about finding the fish image and stitching it. She has also blogged more Swanson quotes here.

So, what favourite quotes of yours would you like to stitch? As cauchy has shown with her fish pattern, using the internet, you can easily find free to use images to add to your favourite quote.

  1. I'm doing a sampler at the moment in the vein of those pretty but kitsch and completely innoffensive artworks you see all over the place in Christian homes and bookshops - floral borders, praying hands and the like, and the usual set of a dozen or so texts.
Mine is going to bear the most pointless, boring Bible verse I can find, and I'm going to call it, 'And the Lord Saith: "It's A Slow News Day"'.

  2. Great idea! I'd stitch: 'It's too bad that whole families have to be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs.' (Jack Handey)

  4. I've been wanting to stitch some quotes from Jane Austen's novels. And some from classic movies, because I love those. :)

  5. I am currently stitching my daughter's favorite quote from her favorite book: Shrek. Otchky-potchky, itchky-pitch, pay attention to this witch.

  7. I'm actually in the middle of embroidering a number (a LARGE number) of quilting squares with quotes and characters from Futurama. My favorite quote, which is probably going to end up on two or three different squares because it's so long, is, "It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?"

  12. Ooo I love the end bit of the American Psycho movie "no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing." I would love to do that with maybe some buunnies or swallows on it :)

  13. I stitched something for my brother that said, "Live every week like it's shark week" (Tracey Jordan from 30 Rock). It was on a pink background with pretty waves and a ferocious shark.

I've been thinking about making one for myself...this post is telling me i should. Thanks!
