Patterns: Happy Apple Child

happy apple child embroidery - finished

Happy Apple Child stitched by Joey Ramone, vintage pattern provided by doe-c-doe

Joey (who you may remember stitched the wonderful tiger which won the Feeling Stitchy colour competition last year) has continued to be busy and she's just stitched this wonderful Happy Apple Child from a vintage pattern provided by doe-c-doe (here), for the New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns June 2011 stitch-along. I love how crisp and bright the stitching is.

You can still join in with the New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns stitch-along, their theme is summer fruits and/or picnics. You can find the group, full of stitchy, vintage goodness here.

  2. I love that apple. Very nice stitching too! Maybe I need a little fruit hanging around my kitchen . . . hmmmmm. If I have time I am going to join the stitch-a-long.

  7. Oh, I forgot to say, I've used this embroidery for the centre panel in a bag, with strawberry fabric to carry on the fruit/picnics theme which was the stitchalong's theme.

  8. JDG's Happy Apple Child is a great example of the fabulous embroideries done by the folks at the "New Embroideries with Vintage Patterns" Flickr Group. Come on over and take a looksie and maybe join a stitch-along.

  9. Stitchy perfection! This is is a fantastic piece.

Great color choices (they look like the original colors for this pattern). I think one day, I'll take an old embroidered tea towel to the store and buy "old colors" to match. I can never seem to pick em out when I'm there guessing!

  10. Thanks Nicky! But no, I have no idea what the original colours were, (if the pattern had a suggested colour scheme). I knew I wanted red for the apple and I picked that shade of green to match the bag's strawberry fabric.

I really like your idea of getting 'old colours' from an old tea towel, you could also do the same with a reproduction vintage fabric, such as feedsack fabric which you like.

    Best wishes
