Chicken stitcher

So... embroidered graffiti - have you done any? These are my feeble efforts. Pathetic, really. But you know, I'm just too much of a chicken to do anything, well, really cool! ;-)

So what I have done is make these little embroidered 'patches' which are stitched onto scraps of paper with a sticky foam thingy on the back. This way it can be attached almost anywhere, but be removed easily. By anyone who might not appreciate embroidery.

I have left these on a railing and a bench on a little promenade right next to where we live. Not the busiest place in the world, so I thought that would be a nice place to get my feet wet, so to speak.

I fantasize about putting these in the toilets at airports, but I haven't done so far. I either plum forget or don't have time (= courage).

There is another patch which is on a bench facing the Thames (in London), right behind the London Studios building. Or there was, anyway, who knows if anyone's removed it by now.

So, that's a little update on that. Not as much doing as I'd like. How about you?

  1. I am seriously gonna try this, its too cool! great inspiration---even your "chicken scratches" lol
I forgot about this little adventure, thanks for the reminder!

  2. Please don't feel that your efforts aren't great, because they are. They are not only great they are inspirational as well. I can't even explain how happy I would be to find these little art works around my town. Maybe I will make some today! Thank you for posting this and thank you for being brave enough to start to step outside of your comfortzone.

  3. Too Cool! I live in a Very Wealthy 'hood - and there is a real sense of entitlement amongst many of the residents. I would love to do something like this, along with a note with something to the effect of "Money Isn't The Only Thing You Can Make."

  4. Check out the Knittas at

    Similar to what you're doing!

  5. I'm a huge streetart fan! And embroidered streetart is even better! Would love to discover something like that one out in the world one day. Lovely. Keep it going!

  6. I'd love to have a go at doing something like that.
Maybe I'll make some to take to Vancouver for my holiday.
    Along with simple frazes like
'Kent - the Garden of England' hehe
So how did you make yours?
As even though you feel they're not great I think you've started something cool ^^

  7. you are an art guerilla!! Good on you grrl! I love art activism, besides this blog has just renewed my love of Arni said... "I'll be back."

  8. This is really cool. The world needs more of nice little happenings. I haven't done this, but I have left things, like art work from my student days, and jewelry that I am going to give to a rummage sale, out in an obvious spot near my apartment. It is so exciting to see that it is gone when I come home. I like to wonder about who took it; was it a nice surprise for them and where it is now. I imagine them waring the jewelry or the picture hanging on their wall.

  9. So lovely!!! it´s a great idea! Y`d love to find something like this... so sweet and that reminds that there are still some really nice and sensitive people around this crazy world...
anyway, here in Brazil I haven´t seen anything like this. Just once I participated on that thing with the books; do you remember? leaving a book with a message for a stranger?! But it was so isolated...
    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your attitude!!!

  10. I think this is a great idea! You've totally inspired me. :)

  11. Such a great idea!! I would love to find something like that.
you have given me some inspriation, thankyou!!

  12. I love this idea, it's brill, if I saw some stitched graffiti it would make me smile inside all day!!

  13. this is kind of like Pay it's a really nice idea!

  14. Yep!
