Scrappy Cross Stitch project by Laura Lupin Howard of Bugs and Fishes

I am fascinated by this wonderful Scrappy Cross Stitch project by Laura Lupin Howard on Instagram (@lauralupinhoward)! Laura managed to find a use for all those tiny bits of embroidery floss left over when she was stitching:

Feeling Random Friday #2 with Spincushions

Welcome Back, Stitchy Friends! As promised in my last post, which was also my first Feeling Random Friday, this weekly post will explore all kinds of crafts that use a needle. Today let's take a look at Spincushions. I have followed Shelley on Instagram for a few years. She started out posting about hand embroidery, which later moved into a passion and focus on crochet and knitting. The thing I love best about Shelley's work is how bright and colorful it is with a whole lot of texture thrown in, too.

Stitchy Snippets: Woolly Christmas Tree

This winter an unusual Christmas tree was on display at the Crafts for Christmas Show in Birmingham, England. The tree measures in at 25 feet tall and is entirely knitted, making it the biggest woolly tree in the world. Along side the breathtaking tree stood a winter wonderland with a fairy tale gingerbread house, snowman and Santa.

Alison Murray started making the tree some years ago, enlisting support from some 1000 knitters to complete the project. The idea behind the project was 'to encourage people to take up the craft of knitting and show that knitting can be fun' says Alison. Knitters from four to one hundred years old took part, sending their knitted squares from different corners of the world. The tree weighs a colossal 0.87 tons and has recently returned from an exhibition in Bangkok.

Pearl and the Beard Giveaway!

I am always up for a good giveaway, how about you guys? So when I was contacted about giving away the newest CD from a Brooklyn-based band called Pearl and the Beard, it only took my brain a second to say "okay!" But hey, I am pretty picky about my music, so I did some Youtube and internet research first, and I must say, I really like their sound.

But of course, what really fascinated me about this CD was... the three person sweater, on the cover- hand-knitted by one of the band members. To prove that this is an actual sweater, and not Photoshop, here's Jocelyn, taking you through her studio and the construction of the sweater:



Aren't the colors she picked for it amazing? I wish I had those skills! Anyway, these guys are pretty adorable, and one of you lucky peeps can get their latest CD, Killing the Darlings.

Patterns: Winding Wool

Winding Wool by June at Noon

I think my heart stopped for a second when I saw this one, isn't it beautiful? I love June at Noon's choice of two different colours for each girl's hair and the directional satin stitching. And of course I love the ball of wool and how it winds over the girl's arms. Oh and the appliqued tops to! I could gush for ages! But I'll stop now and say that this actual piece of work is available as a mini-quilt here or if you want to stitch your own embroidery of this pattern, you can buy that here.
