Patterns: S is for Stitch

We were recently given a digital copy of S is for Stitch: 52 Embroidered Alphabet Designs + Charming Projects for Little Ones by Kristyne Czepuryk to try out, it's a really sweet book, the core of which being a series of alphabet blocks, one set for girls and one set for boys, that go together to make two different quilts, full instructions for the quilts included. There's also a colourful rainbow dancer design, made almost exclusively from lazy daisy stitch, a car embroidery for the little boys in your life, toy blocks, a robot cushion and a flower cushion. There's also a nice section showing examples of how you could use the alphabet designs on other objects.

This is a good book for beginners, with a very comprehensive how to stitch guide. There's also a good section on quilting basics. The embroidery designs are bold and simple. This would be a great book for those stitching for young children. Personally my children (7 and 9) are possibly a little too old for the designs in this book, but I still couldn't resist adding some initial patches onto some cushions and I think they look really cute.

  11. I don't, as yet, have a little person in my life (trying very hard and failing spectacularly), but I have the sublime stitching bib with the preprinted mess. I have had that for 3 years, just waiting until I manage to stay pregnant past 8 weeks to start.

I would love to have a copy of S for Stitches. Thank you for your blog. It has been so inspiring.

  19. Last few things I stitched.... my kids each did a colouring in picture they liked and I copied it into pillow and framed pictures for each of them. Just finishing off a pouch for a friend who is in labour as I type, does that count as finished

  20. I embroidered a couple of blankets for my nephews last. Polar fleece blankets with an embroidery picture in 3 corners and their name in the 4th.

I'd like to work on name plates for their doors next. Lots of trains and trucks and the like seems to go down best with the three of them. We're hoping for an interest in dinosaurs at some point too.

    These designs look gorgeous

  21. the last thing I embroidered were pillowcases for my son. I first stitched the cases with 4 fabrics I liked. Then I made an outline of his favorite wild flower, Queen Anne's Lace on 2 of them. The other two I gave to my daughter and she monogramed them for him. and then we wrapped them and gave them to him for X-mas.

  22. My last embroidery project for my daughter was a pillow sham to go with her new bedding set. I sewed up a little envelope pillow case, added a scalloped crochet border to the edge, and then she decided she wanted a fox embroidered on it. I don't have a fox embroidery pattern, so she drew up the fox picture and I transferred it to the pillow case and embroidered it with brick stitches and satin stitches. It turned out well and it was a fun little collaboration. :)

  34. I'm only just now thinking of starting a family for the first time, and I don't have any young nieces, nephews, cousins, siblings, anything! I need more babies in my life to craft for, right? I can't wait to make an embroidered baby quilt, though, baby quilts in general seem very special but embroidering it lends it even more sentimental value, I think.
