August Stitch Along!

We are very lucky to have the lovely and talented Cate Anevski design a pattern for us, for this month's Feeling Stitchy Stitch Along. Don't you think it's just perfect for stitching up in this hot weather, with a glass of ice cold something with a slice of lemon by your side? And in fact it doesn't have to be lemon, if that's not your thing, change the colour scheme and you've got a little lime slice or a little orange slice! You can download the pattern here (thank you Cate!).

I can't wait to see what everyone gets up to with this pattern! Don't forget to add pics of both your work in progress and your completed pieces to the Embroidery pool on Flickr and use the tag  AugustStitchalong2012 so that we can find you!

August Stitchalong - wip1

My start of Little Lemon Slice, I've picked some nice summery colours and I've blown the pattern up in Word, to make it slightly bigger, as I have plaaaaaaans.........

Patterns: Kitchsy Fruit Crewel Embroidery

Crewel embroidery: fruit (front)
Crewel Embroidery: Fruit (front) stitched by Allspiceabounds

This is Carolyn's (Allspiceabounds) first attempt at crewel embroidery, isn't it perfect? The pattern is from June Craft and is so bright and springlike. June Craft is also worth checking out for this gorgeous crewel bird pattern, as well as some gorgeous prints and make your own softies.

Crewel embroidery may seem a little daunting but it's very similar to normal embroidery and June Craft's pattern .pdfs come complete with comprehensive stitch instructions. If you would like to stitch these patterns but don't want to do them in crewel wool or just simply can't get hold of it, the .pdfs also come with the same design, sized for both embroidery thread and tapestry wool, so no excuse!

Patterns: Happy Apple Child

happy apple child embroidery - finished

Happy Apple Child stitched by Joey Ramone, vintage pattern provided by doe-c-doe

Joey (who you may remember stitched the wonderful tiger which won the Feeling Stitchy colour competition last year) has continued to be busy and she's just stitched this wonderful Happy Apple Child from a vintage pattern provided by doe-c-doe (here), for the New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns June 2011 stitch-along. I love how crisp and bright the stitching is.

You can still join in with the New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns stitch-along, their theme is summer fruits and/or picnics. You can find the group, full of stitchy, vintage goodness here.
