Perle Cotton Obsessed......

Seriously, if you were offered a deal to purchase these at 50 cents per, how many would you buy? I gleefully carried 57 spools home like a six year old with a candy bag.......I couldn't wait to sort them out and find a place where they would show off so handsomely. My current wool and fabric store that carried them closed and I was beginning to panic as to where to find them. My favorite quilt shop in Northern Wisconsin was discontinuing their Italian brand of perle cotton . I wanted to buy them all---would you have felt funny doing that? I wondered if I was showing an obsession or being smart.......we fabric, floss lovers do look obsessed at times, don't we? Look at our stashes.....lol. Of course, now I have to justify my purchase by lots and lots of embroidery........I am so upset...........not. What is the most floss /thread you have purchased at one time?

  3. Oh. My. God! That is awesome! Lucky, lucky you! :-)

When the shop I worked in shut down (Woolworths in the UK went bust!) I managed to lay my hands on a box full of sewing thread... I think there were some 230 of them... Definitely the most thread I've ever bought! :-)

  4. I'm impressed with your restraint! I would have gone wild wild wild.

I think the most floss I have ever bought at one time was my first time at Michael's. I bought 126 skeins, at 49 cents a pop! I was on vacation in Canada and had received some stitching books so I had no choice but to go crazy with floss. :D

  6. I'm so happy to hear that I'm not alone.

I posted a picture of part of my big floss purchase on my Flickr account and blog (distractedmuse is the user name).

I think I paid about $.04 per skein, so I couldn't resist. The woman I purchased from had more than twice this amount left for her personal stash (something like 5000 skeins).

  14. The most floss I have ever purchased at one time was all the DMC colours. Remember when there used to be ads on the back of mags that sold all 424 (and at that time that was all of them!) DMC colours? Never regretted it!

  15. What a gorgeous photo- made me pant a little!
I came home with a garbage bag full when a friend told me to take whatever I wanted- she had cleared out her mother's needlecraft shop. Most of it was wool, but I also got flower cotton and some floss. I love having it- every time I look at it, I remember opening a new box of crayons and enjoying having ALL the colors :-)

  18. Wonderful! I say that, because I know you will use them. Collecting is different than hoarding. You are a collector!

I love to find vintage embroidery floss, and even newer floss at sales. I find going through them, winding them on spools, and sorting them to be very therapeutic.

  20. I'd have bought them! Esp. pearl cotton, because that's what I use the most.

My biggest purchase was one skein of each color of DMC. That was a bit pricey ;)
