Countdown to Christmas Day 6: Ugly Xmas Sweater Cat

Mr. Kitty will wear your Christmas sweater, but he won't be happy about it. Oh wait...that IS his happy face. One of my favorite crafty embroidery peeps, Cate Anevski stitched up this adorable, yet slightly annoyed kitty in an ugly Christmas sweater. You can make your very own but downloading the pattern and the tutorial on &Stitches

Patterns: Don't Leave Home Without It

Don't Leave Home Without It
Don't Leave Home Without It by Cate Anevski

A useful reminder, specially as before you know it Autumn will be upon us (the Northern Hemisphere anyway) again. I think this would be great piece of art for the hallway or maybe upon a nice Autumnal tote bag. You can find the pattern here.

Ice cream, you scream ..... for Embroidery! by Cate Anevski

Summer has hit us here in the UK, it could go away again any second mind you but even if it does I'll keep dreaming of it whilst stitching up these great ice cream patterns from Cate Anevski.

Also worth a check out is some great extra stuff on Cate's blog at the moment, some cute printables and a romantic free embroidery pattern.

August Stitch Along!

We are very lucky to have the lovely and talented Cate Anevski design a pattern for us, for this month's Feeling Stitchy Stitch Along. Don't you think it's just perfect for stitching up in this hot weather, with a glass of ice cold something with a slice of lemon by your side? And in fact it doesn't have to be lemon, if that's not your thing, change the colour scheme and you've got a little lime slice or a little orange slice! You can download the pattern here (thank you Cate!).

I can't wait to see what everyone gets up to with this pattern! Don't forget to add pics of both your work in progress and your completed pieces to the Embroidery pool on Flickr and use the tag  AugustStitchalong2012 so that we can find you!

August Stitchalong - wip1

My start of Little Lemon Slice, I've picked some nice summery colours and I've blown the pattern up in Word, to make it slightly bigger, as I have plaaaaaaans.........

Because bears have thoughts too...

Naturally bears don't use words to express their thoughts, but their thoughts might just take the shape of a dark cloud... I am absolutely smitten with Cate Anevski's new pattern set called 'Animal Expressions'. The set includes seven animals, with all kinds of thoughts. You can purchase both the patterns and the finished art work in Cate's shop.

Patterns: Halloween

Halloween patterns

I think Halloween has to be one of the most fun celebrations to stitch for, so I couldn't just mention one Halloween pattern -

Badbird's Batty Framed was stitched beautifully by xperimental, the pattern is by Badbird and can be found here.

Halloween Cross Stitch Wall Hangings were stitched by Early Bird Special from patterns by My Paper Crane which can be found here. These wall hangings were stitched on plastic canvas with acrylic yarn and you can read more about them on the Early Bird Special blog here.

progress 9/24/11 was stitched by Kunderwood from a Lizzie Kate Halloween pattern and I've been following Kunderwood's progress shots eagerly on Flickr recently.

Also worthy of Halloween pattern mentions are Zombies and Monsters from Sublime Stitching and Urban Threads Halloween selection, both of which I've been using as I prepare for my own Halloween celebrations. I haven't stopped stitching yet however and plan to stitch something from this great new Halloween pattern set from Cate Anevski and hopefully of course Feeling Stitchy's very own Halloween pattern from Cathy Gaubert.

Spooky stitching everyone!

Winner of the May Stitchalong!

The Little Stitch-Along Dress

It wasn't enough for the winner of the May Stitchalong just to stitch up a version of the pattern. She decided to stitch a teensy-tiny version of the May pattern. On a dress. For a Blythe doll. That she crayon tinted. And she made herself.

Seriously, can it get any more amazing? Look at those stitches!
Mr. Toast detail

No, really, look at those stitches - she even made a little diagram to show you exactly what she did:

So congratulations, Lia of Summerday Studio, your stitching is incredible, and you won a free pattern from Cate Anevski's store and a bundle of floss and fabric from me. :)

But, you know what? Cate loved everyone's stitching so much that she's sending one free pattern to every person who took part in the May Stitchalong! Yup, everyone who stitched the pattern last month and added their picture to our pool won a pattern! Isn't that incredibly sweet of her? Cate, you are so wonderful - thank you so much for designing such a wonderful pattern, being so generous, and inspiring us all. Thanks everybody! Is anyone working on the June Stitchalong yet? I'll be checking in with you guys later this week with a special post for that one! :)

May Stitchalong: Cate Anevski

May Stitchalong pattern!

How about another stitchalong? Hmmmm? :)

This month's pattern was brought to us by the super-talented Cate Anevski - we've featured her wonderful embroidery patterns often here, and we're so honored that she created something special for Feeling Stitchy readers!

just the PB + J

That's right, you're looking at a fully customizable PB + J pattern! Maybe you want to stitch just the PB + J?

Or maybe you want your sandwich to say:

Or maybe, you want your sandwich to say a phrase of your very own? Well, we got you:
your pb + j can say whatever you want

I love how Cate's design echoes the quirky, cute kitschiness of vintage patterns, combined with her own, unique feel. This is gonna be a fun one, guys, I can feel it!

And... there's a prize this month!

For a little added inspiration, and as a thank you to all of you for making our first-ever stitchalongs such a hit - Cate will choose one winner who'll receive one free embroidery pattern  from her store (choose your favorite) and a little bundle of floss and fabric from yours truly. Sound awesome? I hope so!

And, since we started this stitchalong a bit late, just know that you'll have until June 7 to complete your stitching. On that day, we'll collect all the entries and Cate will choose our winner.

Wanna take part? Just tag your stitching "MayStitchalong" and add it to our pool!

P.s. to those of you with questions about how or where to start, I'll be checking in this weekend with my progress and links to cool tutorials, etc. See you then! :)

Patterns: Cate Anevski

1. The Duchess, 2. Sunburst Lion, 3. Lion all by Cate Anevski

Cate Anevski has been stitching her way through some of her patterns for an upcoming show and it's been lovely to see how lovely her patterns look on patterned backgrounds. You can find The Duchess and the Lion in Cate's Etsy shop here and the Sunburst Lion in her lovely selection of free patterns here.

Facebroidery

Cate Anevski Face Embroideries

I am a huge fan of artist Cate Anevski (blog, Flickr, Etsy) and couldn't help but make a mosaic of her fantastic "facebroideries". This just makes me happy.

Patterns: Sunburst Lion

Lion close up

When I saw Cate Anevski's free Sunburst Lion pattern, over on her blog Bee's Knees Activities (scroll down to June), I just had to stitch it. All that running stitch creates a wonderful visual and textural effect. This pattern reminds me of retro children's illustrations and could be used in so many ways. I used my finished piece to make an oversized tote (just perfect for carting large packets of nappies from the shops) and it is now my new favourite bag.

Patterns: Two different kind of faces

Two patterns today, first up is some more lovely work from September House, who has recently released a set of patterns called Wig Wonderful. This is my favourite one but I think the whole set would look great framed on a bedroom wall. I think faces can be hard to do in embroidery sometimes but these are just right.

Wig Wonderful Embroidery

And for this week's featured free pattern, I love this guy Roy G. Biv by Cate Anevski who has a wonderful blog called Bee's Knees Activities. Roy G. Biv is here on her site but also check out her 2009 embroidery patterns, I particularly love her November pattern 'Eat Me'.

Woodland Sampler Wall Hanging

I'm loving this wall hanging comprised of some of my favorite embroidery patterns. Joely from Australia (aka Flickr user twolittlefishes) combined these woodland-themed stitcheries with a selection of bright, fun quilting fabrics. Notice how she even coordinated her floss selections?

I was so inspired by this project that I'm hoping to create my own quilt blanket version comprised of the embroidered pieces that I'm receiving as part of the Hoop Up swap. More on that soon!

Blogged (with links to all patterns) here.

I love the way this curled-up cat almost hides in the multicolored dots pattern. Wonderful.
