Feeling Random Friday #5 with Mia Winston

I can hardly believe it's already 2019!! As someone born at the tail end of 1969, I've gotta tell you I honestly thought we'd have flying cars by now, and everyone would have a robot butler. Joking aside, I've been thinking about 2019 a lot in terms of my life, relationships, career - everything. For over a year and a half I've only been partially living. I've been getting by day by day without really enjoying life. I've had a lot of obstacles to overcome that were emotional, mental, and physical. I'm tired of being tired, and I'm tired of not living my life to the fullest!

I L O V E New Year's Resolutions. Do I always keep them? No. Do I even remember the goal I set in January in December? Goodness no! But the ritual of thinking about my life, making an outline of where I'd like to go, and thinking about the possibilities for my life recharge me. I have been sick with bronchitis for over a week. Besides the time I had mono when I was 16, I cannot ever remember being this sick for this long. I took a full week of antibiotics, didn't start to feel better for three days, and still don't feel near being 100% well.

On thing I can be certain of in my future is that my soul will be uplifted by the stitching community, and I will do my part to uplift others. That's why I like writing this segment each week - it gives me an opportunity to lift up the art of others, and share their work with the world.

First up for 2019 is Mia of @winstonsart_ ! Mia combines mixed media elements to create texturally and visually beautiful hoops. She uses touches of sparkle with beads and sequins amongst the stitches. The hoop above reminds me of either an underwater reef, or a little pond with lily pads, tadpoles, and grasses. What does it remind you of?

You can find Mia on Instagram and Etsy. Here are some of my favorites from Mia's Instagram feed. I encourage you to check her out!

The embroidery artist I'm featuring on today's Feeling Random Friday is one that many of my friends have shared with me on Instagram, Facebook, and by text. You can find her on Instagram and Etsy

Besides the one above, here are some of my favorite pieces:

Feeling Random Friday No. 10 with Bobby Pin Bandit

Happy Friday, my stitchy friends! Do you have some fun stitchy plans for the weekend? I've been working on getting my embroidery floss organized. It's been a much bigger job than I anticipated, but I'm getting there. :)

Let's take a look at Bobby Pin Bandit today! I've followed Kristen for a couple of years now, and love her style. She embroiders and sews and more often than not combines the two - like in the picture above. What a gorgeous tote bag!! Her Instagram feed is always filled with such bright and colorful photos. It's a true pleasure for me when I see one of her pics pop up. And I love how Kristen is so quick to support other makers.

Below you can see some of my favorite projects from her feed. Click on them to go straight to her Instagram.

Feeling Random Friday #8 with Lauren Tyger

On the second Feeling Random Friday for today I bring you Lauren! My friend Tasha tagged me in the above photo from Lauren's Instagram account, and I'm glad she did. The message, "Embrace the chaos" is one that I can definitely learn to embrace. I suffer from first child, type A perfectionism syndrome.

Lauren has a sassy feminist vibe and isn't afraid to put into stitches what we're all thinking. In addition to her embroidery, you can live vicariously through Lauren and her world travels and busy life via her Instagram feed. You can find Lauren on Instagram and Etsy. Here are some of my favorites.

Feeling Random Friday #7 with Thread Duncan

Today you're going to see TWO Feeling Random Friday posts - yay! This first is one I was supposed to post last week. I featured Thread Duncan on the Feeling Stitchy Instagram last Friday and then spaced out the blog post. In my defense, the flu bug that has overtaken me this week was probably starting to affect my brain last week...that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Thread Duncan is artist Brad from Oregon in the USA. Scrolling through his Instagram feed, you will see that he is a talented woodworker and embroiderer. His embroidery is colorful and abstract, and also reflects the natural world around him. I particularly love his unique method for mounting his finished embroidery pieces, as you can see in the photo above.

You can find Bard on Instagram and Etsy. Here are some of my favorites.

Feeling Random Friday #6: Bug and Bean Stitching

Can you believe it's December?! How did 2017 go by so quickly? Let's take a look at Bug and Bean Stitching today! Marley is a hand embroidery artist whose work is beautiful! I picked the particular picture above for a few reasons, 1) My wedding anniversary is September 10, 2011 (09/10/11), 2) That shade of blue in the background is pretty similar to what's on the walls of most of my house, and 3) If I'm not mistaken, that's a Rifle Paper Company pattern on the left. I really like her style!

You can find Marley on Instagram @bugandbeanstitching and on Facebook, You probably know that I'm a dog lover, and Bug and Bean are the names of Marley's two Corgis, who are absolutely adorable! Here are some of my favorite hoops she's stitched up:

Feeling Random Friday #5 with The Needlework Finisher

I hope that all of my stitchy friends in the United States had a terrific Thanksgiving yesterday! Today is the day known as "Black Friday" here, and it's one of the biggest shopping days of the year! This year my husband and I decided not to purchase Christmas gifts for anyone...a strangely scary yet liberating feeling. Since our pup Sidney has cancer, his treatment has taken up all of our extra money, so we will be making our gifts this year.

I was looking at Instagram to find some ideas and came across @theneedleworkfinisher, Diana Sagmoe. I tried needlework once, and I was pleased with the results. After seeing the beautiful pieces in Diana's feed, I realized it's an art I need to add more of to my stitching. You can find Diana on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. Here are some of my favorites from her Instagram account.

Feeling Random Friday #3 with Bugambilo

Happy Friday! Today I'm sharing with you a talented hand embroidery artist named Sol Kesseler who goes by @sol.bugambilo on Instagram. I love the big and bold embroideries she creates! Sol is a talented artist, and she uses her skill to teach others. You can purchase her art here, and she also has a Facebook Page here.

Her work makes me want to create an embroidery of my husband with his epic beard :) Here are a couple of my favorites from her Instagram:
