Feeling Random Friday #4 with Oz and Belle

Did you notice I didn't post last Friday? My good friend, Colleen, had her baby a week early on Tuesday, December 4th, and I have been absolutely smitten with him!! Until this past Saturday evening when I became ill, my life was focused on baby Caden and helping Colleen out around her house.

This week we feature Oz and Belle. They are two women, Gina and Sarah, who are friends, colleagues, and first-time mums. I love that the two of them are creating together with embroidery! I would love to have someone local to me who would want to stitch, create, and blog together.

I enjoy the colorfulness of their art, and also their use of mixed media in their embroidery. You can find them on Instagram, Etsy, their Website, Facebook, and their NuMONDAY shop.

Here are some of my favorites from Oz and Belle's Instagram feed!

Feeling Random Friday #3 with Shimunia

The embroidery artist I'm featuring on today's Feeling Random Friday is one that many of my friends have shared with me on Instagram, Facebook, and by text. Her Instagram account is @shimunia, and her name is Vera. Vera lives in Russia, and she creates vividly bright and texturized hand embroidery that fills the whole hoop and pops off of in in 3D-type effects. You have got to check her out! You can find her on Instagram and Etsy

Besides the one above, here are some of my favorite pieces:

Feeling Random Friday #2 with Salt Stitches

The first time I saw Emily's work, I was blown away! She uses every bit of the face of the hoop and fills it with intricate stitches and textures. She adds details like glass beads and semiprecious stones to add more depth. The abstract pieces are based on landscapes and waterways from her travels.

You can see Emily's work on her Salt_Stitches Instagram, and you can purchase it in her Salt Stitches Etsy shop.

Here are a couple of my favorites.

If you or someone you know is a fiber artist you'd like to see featured, please either comment on this post or drop me a line at amy [at] randomactsofamy [dot] [com].

Feeling Random Friday No. 10 with Bobby Pin Bandit

Happy Friday, my stitchy friends! Do you have some fun stitchy plans for the weekend? I've been working on getting my embroidery floss organized. It's been a much bigger job than I anticipated, but I'm getting there. :)

Let's take a look at Bobby Pin Bandit today! I've followed Kristen for a couple of years now, and love her style. She embroiders and sews and more often than not combines the two - like in the picture above. What a gorgeous tote bag!! Her Instagram feed is always filled with such bright and colorful photos. It's a true pleasure for me when I see one of her pics pop up. And I love how Kristen is so quick to support other makers.

Below you can see some of my favorite projects from her feed. Click on them to go straight to her Instagram.

Stitchy Snippets - Matizes Dumont

Original artwork by Matizes Dumont, featured on Feeling Stitchy by Julia Titchfield

The artistic collective called Matizes Dumont is formed by a group of artists of the same family from Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil. The initial group was formed by 'Mother Dumont' - Antônia Zulma Diniz Dumont and her five children: Ângela, Marilu, Martha, Sávia and Demosthenes. The embroidery circle has since expanded with the participation of the third generation: Luana, Tainah, Maria Helena, Paula and Luíza.

In the words of Matizes Dumont, their 'Free and spontaneous embroidery breaks with the patterns of the original technique; using a mixtures of hues, fabrics, textures and strokes that mirrors visual art... Inspired by nature and diversity of Brazilian culture, they create art of deep delicacy.'

The children started embroidering from an early age and were taught by their mother. The family went on to exhibit and sell their embroidery art and Matizes Dumont was conceived.

In addition to their artistic group they have also formed The Institute for Cultural Promotion Antônia Diniz Dumont - ICAD. The main purpose of the institute is to share ideas and actions focused on culture, education, health and the environment. It is a place where the community of Pirapora, Buritizeiro and neighbouring municipalities in Minas Gerais can express themselves, create and coexist with creativity.

Here is a small collection of their beautiful embroidery.

Feeling Random Friday #4 with Le Kadre

Photo credit: Le Kadre Facebook Page

I have a special treat for you today, my stitchy friends! I went down a rabbit hole on Instagram the other day and found this delightful couple! Elin and Charles, who are recently engaged, share a love for each other, and for hand embroidery. Elin is Swedish and Charles is French, and their nationalities, cultures, and world travels come across in their artwork. They teach workshops and also have a monthly pattern program on their website, Le Kadre. Here is Elin's Instagram, @petronella.art, Charles' Instagram, @_charleshenry_, and their Facebook Page Le Kadre.

Here are some of my favorite photos from their Instagram feeds. I encourage you to follow both of them!

When my now husband and I were dating, I taught him how to embroider. He was very good at it, and it was a great way for us to spend time together and share a creative outlet. Some time after we were married I asked him if he wanted to do some embroidering with me. His words were, and I repeat them here verbatim, "I already got you (married you), so I don't need to do that anymore!" 😐  I still have hope that I can get him back into doing embroidery with me. Do you and your significant other share a love of stitching?

Sol is a talented artist, and she uses her skill to teach others. You can purchase her art here, and she also has a Facebook Page here.

Her work makes me want to create an embroidery of my husband with his epic beard :) Here are a couple of my favorites from her Instagram:
