Craft Hope for Haiti

Please forgive me as I always tend to be late to the party on these things, but I didn't want to neglect to mention a wonderful Etsy store (you probably already know about), Craft Hope for Haiti. I clicked over to their site to read more about them and I was once again inspired and floored by the power of the internet. I know that people worldwide have been moved by the tragedy in Haiti, but the idea that 2 moms, working from home could raise over 20,000 dollars for Haiti in a matter of days, in an Etsy store, just amazes me. To me, it speaks to the amazing generosity and kindness of the crafting world.

Please take a look at their store and use your crafty dollars to help those in Haiti that are hurting.

It's A Wonder

In case you run out of fabric, there's always wonder bread to embroider on.......I saw this posted on someone else's blog and I followed the link to Rubblearium's etsy store. Talk about creative. To quote the artist as she explains her use of Wonder Bread:

"Did you know that the creator of Wonder Bread was inspired by the wondrous site of a sky full of colorful hot air balloons, which is why he called his product Wonder Bread and why he used red and blue polkadots to evoke a memory of balloons on the package. I decided to try to work with Wonder Bread to make a series of wondrous things, including little creatures, Barbie doll outfits, and embroidered Wonder Bread."

It just goes to show me that I haven't even thought of everything possible to embroider, yet. Go see what other over the top creations she has.......

I am completely loving these handmade ties by Anabela - she makes them to order and adds a sweet hand-embroidered name on the back. And okay, I don't wear ties, but I might need one.

A Holiday Etsy Store for You

Etsy Buy Handmade Hope for Jasenn

I wanted to tell you all about something very special going on right now, a wonderful person you may know, Linda Permann, started an Etsy store to raise money for her brother-in-law who is fighting stage IV kidney cancer. I'm not the only who knows how hard it is to make ends meet during the holiday season - and maybe you know firsthand how scary it is to deal with a sick family member and huge, scary hospital bills. That's why I think what she is doing is so lovely - with the help of crafters (and her own crafts) she's donating 100% of the proceeds from her store to Jasenn and his family.

So often we want to do a little something for someone else during the holiday season, but feel weird about giving to strangers or don't know where to start... this is a perfect way to give to a wonderful person and get something in return!

I donated my embroidered menorah to the store, and I would be honored if any of you purchase that or anything else from Linda's store. I would ship my embroidered piece to you, along with a few little goodies from my stash and my sincerest thanks for helping a young family this holiday! She knits, felts, and sews among other things, but one of my favorite items at Lisa's Needle Wood Designs Etsy shop are these darling embroidered bookmarks. The "flowers" are bits of cotton with a French knot.

On her blog, Lisa wrote: "I'm not happy unless I'm creating something new, something pretty, something unique. I love to work with my hands so hand sewing (embroidery, needle felting, quilting) are my passion. I create every day. Sometimes with success and sometimes not."

Oh, dear Lisa. These are quite successful.
