Friday Instagram Finds No. 30 with Beth Colletti

Hello! I hope you're having an awesome day. This post published at 6:00 am my time, so I'm sure I'm still fast asleep. But I know our readers in other parts of the world are more than halfway over with their days. Take a moment to sit back and relax, and look at some beautiful stitching.

@bethcolletti

The first thing I'm struck by when I look at Beth's Instagram feed is the color - bright, beautiful, and bold color. I love it! The next thing I'm struck by is her blending of nature in her work. Beth's sunflower hoo is one of the most amazing pieces of embroidery I've ever seen! Now those are some embroidery goals to strive for!

Her use of mixed media with embroidery is beautiful, and combines fabric, paint and floss with lovely quotes and typography. The last picture shown here gives a lovely closeup look.

Beth's pictures are beautifully staged, and light, bright, and beautiful! I cannot emphasize enough how important this is in a fantastic Instagram feed.

Friday Instagram Finds No. 25 with Jordan Harmon Fine Art

Hello Stitchers! Welcome to this week's edition of Friday Instagram Finds! Can you believe that, not including today, there are only 10 Fridays until Christmas?! October is half way over, and there are only 11 weeks, or 76 days left in 2015?! Is it only me, or does it seem like time has flown by in 2015? Quite honestly, it feels like 2013 was just a few months ago...

Today let's take a look at Jordan of @jharmonart! Jordan's embroidery art wowed me the first time I saw it. It is unique in the way she combines fabric, paint, and floss to create stunning hoops. The scenes in her hoops appear to very simple on first glance, but when you take a closer look at them, you see all kinds of detail that evoke pleasant feelings. Her beach pieces, in particular, fascinate me in their simplicity and detail.

My favorite hoop in her feed is the one of the Ferris wheel. The 3D texture of the arms of the wheel, and how she placed the arms of the wheel stacked so that you get the sense of what the arms look like in real life, give it motion, and I can envision the wheel leisurely turning. (I always think a ride on a Ferris wheel is a good idea until I get on it and get stuck at the top as more passengers get on.)

Here's a look at some of my favorite hoops from Jordan's feed. Click on the link under each picture to go to that picture in Jordan's Instagram feed.

Friday Instagram Finds No.18 with Sewn by the Beach

This is the last Friday in August, and for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it means that summer is coming to a close. (Does this mean that winter is coming to a close in the Southern Hemisphere?) This makes me unbelievably sad, because I adore warm weather - the hotter, the better! Today, let's take a look at Lauren of the Instagram account @sewn_by_the_beach so that we can extend the summer feeling :)

@sewn_by_the_beach
I found Lauren's account because she tagged some of her photos with #feelingstitchyig. Lauren creates beautiful embroidered pieces and needle felted artwork. Take a look!

These coral necklaces are so unique in these neat pocket watch pendants! The blue felt background is vibrant, and reminds me of the water near Clearwater, Florida. The red of the coral really pops against it.

Lauren's toucan is a beautiful piece of art. I have a lot of respect for embroidery artists who fill in all of their work with stitches. I do it sometimes, but not often. When you look at Lauren's feed, you'll see that she fills in most of her subjects.

Lauren's ribbon embroidered sunflower is awesome! I enjoy how she used different shades of brown to form the center of the sunflower. By only showing a part of the sunflower, it makes this necklace very visually appealing.

How adorable is this fawn?!? Lauren's felted art is stunning. I've never tried felting, don't even know the first thing about it, but it looks like painting with felt instead of paints. The detail that Lauren's able to achieve are stunning.
