As a snarky stitcher, I've been known to stitch a dirty word from time to time, but I love alternatives to swears as well. That is probably why I find this commercial from Orbit gum so amusing - swear words are replaced by ridiculous tame alternatives.

I first came across Andwabisabi's charming designs in the Flickr pool; with this cute alligator / crocodile stitched by Sarachung.

So, I just had to get some cross stitch action for myself and amongst the patterns I bought, was this lovely TV design, perfect for making up into a cushion for the sofa, where we, well, spend all our time watching TV.

Andwabisabi carries an astonishing array of different, colourful cross stitch patterns, ranging from the simpler to the more time consuming. I have the .pdf of her large Dream City pattern waiting, ready to go. Definitely a shop I will keep checking back with.

Yep, that's Mr. Rod Serling up there, and apparently, Ms. giddygirlie stitched this from a drawing by Scott Campbell. I love that this is just in time for the 50th anniversary of the show's first episode. Can't wait to catch a marathon and watch at least 5 in a row!

Soapy portraits

No, nothing to do with washing your face or clothes. But embroidered portraits of some of the characters of English soap 'Eastenders'. Now, I must admit that, although I live in England, I don't think I have ever watched a single episode of this, very long-running, show.

However, I can definitely appreciate the cross-over between pop culture and stitching. Especially when the stitching is this good!

Oh my goodness. First William Shatner, and now this? Abe Vigoda was SO my favorite curmudgeon on Barney Miller. I just wanted to hug him. Awesome work, Ms. Virbitsky!

And of course, these embroidered portraits bring to mind the amazingly talented Ms. Hart. I finally saw a few of Jenny's portraits in person last week and I almost passed out from their sheer amazingness. Keep the portrait spirit alive, peeps!
